WLTP introducerades den 1 september 2017. Sedan dess har alla nya fordonstyper behövt WLTP-värden (detta gäller endast för homologering av ny modell). Från och med den 1 september 2018 kommer alla nya registrerade fordon att kräva WLTP-värden. ŠKODA kommer att ha sin första WLTP-data i juli 2018.

Branschen vill börja använda WLTP-baserade resultat för allmän konsumentinformation (t.ex. försäljnings-broschyrer och webbplatser). The WLTP (World harmonized Light-duty vehicles Test Procedure) is a global harmonized standard for determining the levels of pollutants, CO 2 emissions and fuel consumption of traditional and hybrid cars, as well as the range of fully electric vehicles. WLTP-testerna består av fyra delar med olika genomsnittshastigheter: låg, medium, hög och extra hög. Varje del innehåller en mängd körfaser, stopp, acceleration och bromsfaser. För vissa biltyper testas varje drivlinjekonfiguration för att visa på bilens ljusaste (mest ekonomiska) och tyngsta (minst ekonomiska) version.

The procedure was developed by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) to replace the current “New European Driving Cycle” (NEDC), which has been in use since the 1990s. WLTP-testen är laboratoriebaserade för att säkerställa att provförhållandena är jämförbara för alla fordon, såsom vind, temperatur, trafiktäthet och vägens skick. Resultaten representerar därför genomsnittliga användarförhållanden och individuellt körningsbeteende kan fortfarande skilja sig åt stort. The WLTP system, introduced in 2017, is replacing the NEDC methodology. The newer WLTP procedures aim to test vehicles under conditions that are more realistic and better mimic on-road performance.

Though, it is envisioned to be a global standard, Europe is the first region to formally adopt the testing standard.

WLTP börjar gälla för alla nya bilar i september 2018 och innebär att de enligt lag ska provas med en ny testmetod, som ger mer realistiska värden för bränsleförbrukning och koldioxidutsläpp. In order to obtain type approval, electrified vehicles will also have to be tested according to the new WLTP rules in Europe. Just as the fuel consumption figures for vehicles with internal combustion engines will change with the WLTP’s roll-out, the same will apply to the range specifications of pure electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles. WLTP type approval testing will be introduced for new car types.

Now, the next step toward consolidating the WLTP in Europe is the WLTP 2 nd Act, which amends the Directive 2007/46/EC of the European Parliament and Commission Regulation (EC) 692/2008 and Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/1151 of the Council. WLTP or Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure - is a new, realistic measuring process for determining a car’s fuel consumption, range and emissions.
